I’ve written a lot of emails with subject lines like that over the years. “Checking in…”
You have a meeting or a call with a prospect, you submit a proposal, and then you wait.
When you hear nothing, you “check-in” and you keep “checking in” until you start feeling like a pest.
“Dear Prospect, I’m just checking in on that proposal I submitted back in 2008. You mentioned you needed a few weeks to review so I’m just touching base to see if you’ve had a chance by now. It’s March 11, 2015. Just let me know. Thanks!”
As I said, kinda silly…
I don’t really check in anymore. It’s not because I’m so special I don’t have to, it’s simply because that’s not how my “train” works.
That’s how I view my business. It’s a train. It just keeps going. If you want to get on, get on. If not, that’s fine.
I operate under a very simple principle: HUMAN BEINGS PURSUE WHAT THEY WANT.
So if they aren’t pursuing what I’ve got, I simply assume they don’t want what I have.
But the “Platform” keeps showing up for them no matter what.
Do I miss some possible business with this approach? Probably. Does it bother me? No.
They’ll be back if they want to be back. If not, it just wasn’t meant to be.
Plus, when you only work with people who want what you have, you end up with the privilege of working with some pretty awesome clients.
That’s who I work with. Awesome clients. And I’m grateful for that.
But there’s a recipe for this. I’ve found I get the best clients when I stop asking for them. That way, the only folks that show up are the ones who actually want to be there!
The Platform gets you OUT of the “checking in” business. You never have to say those words again if you choose not to.
You don’t need to be a wizard of any kind to do this. You’re already an expert in SOMETHING.
What you DO need is time. This approach only works with TIME. No one would expect to bake a cake without allowing time for it to cook. Same thing with the Platform. You don’t get something for nothing. You make the investment, THEN you reap the reward.
The Platform Lab starts March 17. There are 30 spots and enrollment is $197 for the entire series of 4 sessions. If you don’t have a Platform yet, this is a strategic way to get off the ground quickly. Get the details here.
