Research says that on a genetic level, you and I are about 99.9% alike.
So that means we’ve got about .1% of us that makes us different compared to someone else. That’s in business, in life, in everything.
Do you know what your .1% is? Can you put that into words?
Some people go their entire lives with little to no awareness of their .1%.
In a service business where you’re selling yourself, not having access to this understanding can make things more challenging.
You see the clues in a lot of places. Like when someone asks you, “So what do you do?”
If you are a web designer, not aware of your .1% and someone asks you that, you’ll probably answer, “I design websites.”
As you can probably guess, an answer like this doesn’t do much for your ability to attract clients.
Knowing your .1% and being able to put that into words DOES help.
So how do you do it?
It starts with asking yourself questions and then listening for your answers. They come when you ask, but not always right away.
To be frank, this process takes work. Sometimes a lot of work.
I think the reason the .1% is so difficult to see is that most people in this world simply don’t think of themselves very highly. We’re trained not to.
It took me years of bumping into things before my .1% answer dropped into my lap. Now I’m running with it.
Those were some LONG years. But it was work worth doing. To break out of the illusion that you are not special, unique, valuable and useful is a kind of freedom that is hard to describe.
And it has a huge impact on your business and your life.
It affects your own sense of worth, of course.
It affects the fees you charge.
It affects the clients you attract.
And more…
My hunch is that you already might have a clue about what your .1% is. But you’ve been trained to believe that if you actually said it, people might think you were egotistical, or bragging, or full of yourself.
Wow, what a screwed up training program that is.
Break free. Get clear on your .1%. You can do this yourself, but if you’re looking for a shortcut, there is help.
